Thailand’s CPF’s Ban Bueng Mill secures ASC Feed certification

The ASC Feed Standard is globally regarded as one of the most rigorous frameworks for responsible feed production.

THAILAND –  Charoen Pokphand Foods Public Company Limited (CPF) recently announced that its Ban Bueng aquafeed mill in Chonburi Province has been awarded the Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) Feed Standard certification.

The recognition marks a major step in reinforcing the country’s shrimp supply chain with internationally verified environmental and social responsibility.

The ASC Feed Standard is globally regarded as one of the most rigorous frameworks for responsible feed production.

It holistically evaluates feed mills, ingredients and sourcing practices, ensuring compliance through independent audits carried out by accredited Conformity Assessment Bodies.

The Ban Bueng mill underwent this process through Control Union (Thailand), the ASC-approved assessor.

Control Union managing director Stephan François L. Morilés said the certification demonstrates CPF’s commitment to strengthening sustainability and traceability across Thailand’s shrimp supply chain, noting,

This certification reflects CPF’s strong commitment to advancing Thailand’s shrimp industry along a sustainable pathway, strengthening traceability across the entire supply chain from origin to final product.”

Commitment to traceability and ethical practices

CPF said the certification aligns with its long-term strategy to deliver shrimp products that are safe, responsibly produced and fully traceable for global markets.

Pairoj Apiruknusit, head of the company’s Integrated Aquaculture Business (Thailand), stressed the importance of responsible practices across all operations.

CPF is committed to sourcing sustainable raw materials, upholding good labour and community practices, and ensuring transparent and fully traceable production processes,” he said.

He added that earning ASC Feed certification “is another important milestone in enhancing the competitiveness of Thailand’s shrimp industry and reinforcing confidence among global markets.”

The company has increasingly integrated technology and innovation across its shrimp production system, applying digital tools and data-driven management from feed sourcing to farming and processing.

ASC Feed raises the bar for responsible feed production. It reinforces consumer trust and further strengthens Thailand’s position in the global shrimp market,” Apiruknusit said.

Environmental and social investments

Beyond compliance, CPF’s Ban Bueng mill has implemented a range of environmental initiatives to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, including newer biomass and solar energy systems.

Community-focused programmes also form part of its sustainability agenda, such as tree-planting, pesticide-free household vegetable gardens and agricultural knowledge-sharing with local schools.

The company’s shrimp operations already hold Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) 4-Star certification, covering feed mills, hatcheries, farms and processing plants.

CPF also sources fishmeal from certified, legally compliant suppliers while maintaining policies to ensure responsible and ethical labour practices throughout its value chain.
