BioMar achieves France’s first ASC-certified feed production facility

The Nersac factory and the Dueñas facility in Spain are responsible for supplying feed to the entire Western Mediterranean Europe and Africa.

FRANCE – BioMar had reached a significant sustainability milestone with the Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) Feed Certification of its Nersac facility in France, marking the first aquafeed production site in the country to achieve this recognition.

The certification positions BioMar to deliver ASC-conforming feed across the West Mediterranean and Africa, reinforcing its commitment to responsible aquaculture practices.

The Nersac factory, a key part of BioMar’s production network, manufactures feed for all life stages of aquaculture species, including hatchery diets.

With its new ASC certification, BioMar can now support ASC-certified producers right from the earliest stages of the farming cycle, ensuring that sustainability is embedded throughout production.

We are delighted to celebrate BioMar France’s ASC Feed certification. As the first ASC-certified feed production facility in France, BioMar demonstrates its strong commitment to sustainability and innovation, and sets a powerful example for others in the region to follow,” said Camille Civel, ASC Regional Manager for Southern Europe, France, and Italy, adding that the milestone marks a major step forward for responsible aquaculture in France.

Strengthening sustainable feed supply

The ASC Feed Standard outlines stringent requirements related to environmental responsibility, labour rights, health and safety, and sustainable sourcing of raw materials.

BioMar’s certification of the Nersac site underscores its long-term focus on supporting both high-performance and responsible feed production.

This certification strengthens our ability to support ASC-certified farmers at every production stage,” said Luis Garcia Romero, Managing Director at BioMar.

By offering ASC-conforming feed, we help our customers meet evolving market expectations and build value across the full value chain in the Western Mediterranean region. The Nersac factory in France, together with the Dueñas facility in Spain, are responsible for supplying feed to the entire Western Mediterranean Europe and Africa.

The milestone follows a series of ASC Feed Certifications across BioMar’s global network, with facilities in Chile, Ecuador, Spain, Costa Rica, Norway, Denmark, and the United Kingdom already certified.

These certifications collectively enable BioMar to supply ASC-compliant feed for an expanding range of species and aquaculture systems worldwide.

Expanding BioMar’s global ASC footprint

DNV, which audited BioMar’s facilities for ASC compliance, praised the company’s growing certification portfolio.

At DNV, we celebrate the continued progress of BioMar Group’s sustainability strategy, with the recent integration of its French factory into this initiative,” said Javier Soria, Food Manager at DNV in Iberia.

This site joins other group facilities in the challenge of ASC certification, a key tool to ensure responsible and sustainable sourcing of animal feed, contributing to the overall sustainability of the entire food supply chain.”

The certification of the Nersac site comes shortly after BioMar secured ASC Feed Certification for its Brande facility in Denmark in September 2025.

That milestone expanded the company’s network of ASC-certified sites in Europe and strengthened access to sustainable feed solutions across Northern and Central Europe.

From 31 October 2025, ASC-certified farms must source feed exclusively from ASC-certified suppliers to maintain their certification status, a change that makes BioMar’s expanded certified feed production network especially significant.

As BioMar continues to grow its ASC-certified footprint, the company emphasises that sustainability extends beyond certification. Innovation, collaboration, and supply chain partnerships remain central to its approach to reducing aquaculture’s environmental footprint and supporting a more responsible global seafood sector.
