Skretting provides that the upgraded Lorica and Optiline will be available to shrimp farmers in Ecuador at the end of 2025.

NORWAY – Skretting, a leading aquafeed developer, has launched the next generation of its flagship shrimp feeds, Lorica and Optiline, marking a major leap forward in functional aquafeed innovation.
The new formulations are the first in Skretting’s shrimp portfolio to incorporate EDGEOS PhytoComplexes, an exclusive blend of bioactive compounds derived from plants, developed by Nutreco Exploration, Skretting’s dedicated research team in plant and bacteria science.
The announcement comes at a time when the global shrimp industry faces mounting challenges, from disease outbreaks and environmental pressures to the growing demand for sustainable production.
Against this backdrop, Skretting’s new feeds are designed to help producers achieve greater consistency in growth and survival while strengthening shrimp resilience.
“The addition of EDGEOS PhytoComplexes to Lorica and Optiline allows us to uphold shrimp health and performance with greater precision than ever before,” said Dr. Charles McGurk, Skretting’s R&D Director.
“These ingredients support resilience and growth efficiency, offering farmers a more robust and sustainable solution.”
Pioneering precision nutrition
EDGEOS PhytoComplexes are a proprietary innovation of Nutreco Exploration, blending bioactive compounds extracted from whole plants, leaves, flowers, and stems in synergistic combinations that target key physiological pathways in aquatic animals.
These complexes form the foundation of a new generation of feeds designed to enhance animal health naturally.
Lorica, long regarded as Skretting’s benchmark functional health feed, has been re-engineered to provide broader protection and support shrimp resilience under a range of production conditions.
Optiline, on the other hand, focuses on maximising growth and feed efficiency. By integrating natural growth promoters and optimised nutrition, the new Optiline formulation achieves faster growth, improved feed conversion, and reduced reliance on marine ingredients, all while lowering nutrient discharge.
“Lorica and Optiline have been the best in their respective segments for over a decade, and we are confident that they will continue to be,” said Leiner Lache, Skretting’s Innovation Director for Shrimp.
“These new releases were created to address the specific market realities of today. Developed in close collaboration with our customers, partners, and Nutreco Exploration, they are exciting and innovative solutions that will help farmers stay ahead, creating real value for the global shrimp industry.”
Strengthening sustainability and innovation
The upgraded Lorica and Optiline feeds follow closely on the heels of Necto, a functional diet for fish launched earlier this month that also features EDGEOS PhytoComplexes.
Together, these innovations mark a decisive step towards a more sustainable and resilient aquaculture sector, one in which plant-based science drives performance and welfare gains.
Skretting confirmed that Lorica and Optiline will be available to shrimp farmers in Ecuador at the end of 2025, with rollout to additional markets to follow.
