BASF returns to market with next-generation vitamin A and D3 blend

The development of the dual vitamin formulation is a direct response to customer demand for greater convenience, performance, and sustainability in feed manufacturing.

GERMANY – BASF has re-entered the animal nutrition market with the launch of Lutavit® A/D3 1000/200 NXT, a breakthrough vitamin formulation that combines vitamins A and D3 in one stable, microencapsulated blend.

The innovation, designed to enhance feed efficiency and sustainability, marks a significant milestone for BASF as it leverages its world-class production capabilities at the Verbund site in Ludwigshafen, Germany.

The new Lutavit® A/D3 1000/200 NXT formulation offers a consistent 5:1 ratio of vitamin A to D3, suitable for all animal species.

According to BASF, the product demonstrates excellent stability even in demanding premixes and pellets, while maintaining high bioavailability and an extended shelf life of 18 months under standard storage conditions.

Our customers can count on BASF’s decades of expertise in vitamin A formulation, drawing on the strengths of our unique production Verbund site in Ludwigshafen,” said Christian Müller, Vice President Business Management Vitamins & Carotenoids at BASF.

By producing Lutavit® A/D3 1000/200 NXT at the world’s largest vitamin A formulation facility, we leverage advanced resource efficiency and utilise energy sources as well as raw materials that help reduce our carbon footprint. This not only ensures reliable supply and excellent product quality but also supports the sustainability goals of our customers.

BASF said the launch reinforces its commitment to delivering high-quality, science-based solutions that enhance animal health and productivity.

The development of the dual vitamin formulation, it added, was a direct response to customer demand for greater convenience, performance, and sustainability in feed manufacturing.

Our ongoing collaboration with our customers and dedication to their success remain central to our operations,” noted Deepak Karthikeyan, Global Product Management Vitamin A and A/D3 Animal Nutrition.

We are proud to announce the launch of Lutavit® A/D3 1000/200 NXT in direct response to the needs expressed by our customers and partners.”

Seeking partners for feed enzyme growth

In a related development, BASF has announced plans to seek strategic partners for its feed enzymes business, part of the company’s Nutrition & Health division.

The move aims to unlock new growth opportunities in a market the company views as essential for innovation and profitability.

We are looking for partners for whom feed enzymes represent a strategic focus area to drive innovation and profitable growth,” said Dr. Martin Volland, President of BASF’s Nutrition & Health division.

BASF pioneered the global feed enzyme sector in 1991 with Natuphos®, the world’s first commercial phytase enzyme, and has since built a strong portfolio that includes phytase, xylanase, glucanase, and mannanase.

The company said its feed enzyme team combines “market and technical expertise with pioneering experience,” positioning it for continued success in the global marketplace.

Daniela Calleri, Head of Nutrition Ingredients at BASF, added that the feed enzymes business has consistently outperformed the market in recent years.

We are proud of what the team has built. In our Nutrition Ingredients business unit, we will continue to strengthen our core product platforms for vitamins and carotenoids as part of BASF’s key value chains,” she said.

We are confident that in an alternative setup, the feed enzymes business will be able to unlock its potential fully.

BASF emphasised that the restructuring only applies to its feed enzymes business within the Nutrition & Health division and will not affect enzyme products for home care and industrial applications, which remain under its Care Chemicals division.
