BioMar expands ASC-Certified feed network with Danish facility

This achievement joins a growing list of ASC-certified BioMar sites, including facilities in Chile, Ecuador, Costa Rica, Norway, and the U.K.

DENMARK – BioMar, a global leader in sustainable aquafeed, has secured Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) Feed Certification for its production facility in Brande, Denmark, broadening the company’s global network of certified feed sites and strengthening access to responsible aquaculture solutions in Northern and Central Europe.

The certification, announced on 25 September 2025, marks another milestone in BioMar’s expanding ASC-compliant portfolio, which already includes sites in Chile, Ecuador, Costa Rica, Norway, and the United Kingdom.

The Brande facility supplies high-performance aquafeed across more than 20 countries, playing a central role in BioMar’s global operations.

With this certification, Danish producers and their regional counterparts will now be able to secure ASC-compliant feed ahead of the upcoming industry deadline.

From 31 October 2025, ASC-certified farms must source feed from ASC-certified suppliers to maintain their status.

This milestone strengthens our ability to deliver certified feed solutions that support our customers’ ambitions for responsible farming,” said Anders Brandt-Clausen, Managing Director at BioMar Denmark.

By certifying our Brande facility, we’re expanding access to ASC-compliant feed in over 20 countries, helping producers meet evolving sustainability targets and secure their place in global markets.”

The ASC Feed Standard sets rigorous requirements for environmental stewardship, labour rights, health and safety, and responsible sourcing of raw materials. Certification ensures that feed suppliers play their part in raising standards across the aquaculture value chain.

Building a sustainable aquaculture future

For BioMar, the addition of Brande underscores a long-term commitment to supporting farmers as they adapt to changing regulations and market expectations.

With ASC-compliant feed now available from our Danish facility, we’re proud to extend our certified offering across Europe and into new markets,” Brandt-Clausen added.

This certification reinforces our role as a trusted partner in responsible aquaculture and our commitment to helping customers thrive in a fast-evolving industry.”

BioMar emphasised that certification is only one pillar of its sustainability strategy. Innovation, collaboration, and supply chain partnerships remain equally critical in reducing aquaculture’s footprint.

In that spirit, BioMar has recently partnered with Cefetra, a global leader in agricultural supply chains, to address emissions associated with vegetable-based feed ingredients.

The initiative, starting with wheat in the United Kingdom, will focus on reducing emissions at the farm level, promoting regenerative agricultural practices, and building more resilient supply chains that connect crop and fish farming.

The push for sustainability comes at a pivotal moment for global aquaculture. In 2022, aquaculture overtook capture fisheries for the first time, producing 51% of the world’s aquatic animal output.

While the sector boasts one of the lowest feed conversion ratios in animal protein production, feed and raw material sourcing account for more than 80% of its emissions, and tackling this challenge is essential for aquaculture’s future growth and acceptance.
