dsm-firmenich unveils GutServ® Biotix to strengthen piglet health from day one

The launch comes at a time when pig producers worldwide are grappling with the challenges of managing early-life stress in piglets, particularly during critical transition periods, such as weaning.

SWITZERLAND – dsm-firmenich Animal Nutrition & Health has launched GutServ® Biotix, a next-generation postbiotic feed additive designed to enhance piglet resilience, safeguard gut health, and deliver strong long-term performance outcomes.

The product was unveiled as part of the company’s ongoing commitment to advancing sustainable, welfare-focused livestock nutrition.

The launch comes at a time when pig producers worldwide are grappling with the challenges of managing early-life stress in piglets, particularly during critical transition periods, such as weaning.

GutServ® Biotix works through four synergistic actions that directly support gut health and immune performance. Whether piglets are under stress from weaning, dietary shifts or environmental challenges, our solution helps sustain performance by reinforcing gut functionalities and supports a balanced microbiome,” said Dr. Philippe Tacon, Global Product Manager Microbials at dsm-firmenich Animal Nutrition & Health.

GutServ® Biotix is a testament to our commitment to help the swine industry increase productivity, improve welfare, reduce environmental impact, and enhance product quality.”

A scientifically proven, practical solution

Unlike probiotics, which rely on live microorganisms, GutServ® Biotix is a postbiotic, meaning it consists of beneficial compounds produced by microorganisms rather than the organisms themselves.

This gives the product superior heat tolerance, shelf stability, and compatibility with all feed types and processing conditions, making it easy to handle and seamlessly integrate into commercial feeding programs.

The solution has been tested across multiple geographies, backed by strong scientific validation and commercial trials.

According to dsm-firmenich, producers using GutServ® Biotix can expect a return on investment ranging from 5:1 to 10:1, highlighting its consistent value across diverse production systems.

The company positions GutServ® Biotix as a proactive tool that enables producers to move beyond crisis management and into prevention-focused care.

By nurturing gut health early, the postbiotic not only protects piglets during their most vulnerable stages but also helps lay the foundation for healthy growth and optimal lifetime performance.

Riding the postbiotics wave

The launch taps into a growing global trend toward sustainable and antibiotic-free animal production.

As pressure mounts to reduce antimicrobial use in livestock, producers are turning to scientifically supported alternatives like postbiotics to maintain animal health and productivity.

Unlike probiotics, postbiotics are non-living and thus offer several advantages in animal feed, including improved safety, enhanced immune response, and better integration into feed processing systems. These benefits are accelerating their adoption across the livestock industry.

Recent studies have demonstrated that postbiotics derived from strains such as Lactiplantibacillus plantarum significantly enhance gut health and immune function in various species, including swine, poultry, shrimp, and rabbits.

These findings are bolstering confidence in postbiotic solutions as reliable tools for enhancing performance.

The animal feed industry is responding accordingly. The global postbiotics market for animal feed is projected to reach US$35.18 billion by 2032, growing at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 9.12% from 2025 to 2032.

Much of this demand is being fueled by livestock producers seeking stable, effective additives that align with sustainable and welfare-focused production systems.

With GutServ® Biotix, dsm-firmenich is positioning itself at the forefront of this market shift.

By reinforcing intestinal functionality early, GutServ® Biotix not only helps piglets thrive under stress but also provides producers with confidence in long-term herd performance,” the company noted in its announcement.
