De Heus boosts Western Europe presence with acquisition of Voeders Huys

Voeders Huy’s production facilities will add approximately 250,000 tons of annual feed capacity to De Heus’ operations.

BELGIUM  – Dutch animal nutrition giant De Heus has expanded its footprint in Western Europe with the acquisition of Voeders Huys, a leading Belgian producer of compound feed.

The move significantly strengthens De Heus’ production capacity and market position in Belgium and Northern France, key growth areas for the company.

De Heus confirmed that it reached an agreement with the Huys family, the longstanding owners of Voeders Huys, to take over the business and its two strategically located production sites, one in Bruges, Belgium, and the other in Northern France.

This acquisition marks a new chapter in our long-term growth strategy,” said Gabor Fluit, CEO of De Heus Animal Nutrition.

By starting local production in Belgium and France, we strengthen our position in a region with strong agricultural potential. It enables us to grow together with our farmers and supply chain partners, while also reducing our carbon footprint through shorter supply chains.”

Founded in 1938, Voeders Huys has earned a strong regional reputation, with roots in the grain trade dating back to 1865.

0.25 million tons boost in annual production

The company’s production facilities will add approximately 250,000 tons of annual feed capacity to De Heus’ operations, enabling faster and more efficient service to regional livestock farmers.

Until now, De Heus supplied the Belgian market primarily from its Dutch factories. With this acquisition, the company gains local manufacturing capabilities, offering logistical efficiencies and enhanced sustainability through reduced transport distances.

The acquisition also solidifies De Heus’ position as a market leader in Belgium’s poultry sector and opens avenues to serve other livestock segments.

Voeders Huys brings extensive knowledge, a dedicated team and strong customer relationships in the region,” said Paul Damen, Managing Director of De Heus Netherlands.

We see great opportunities to build on this foundation and support livestock farmers in Belgium and Northern France with high-quality, locally tailored feed solutions.”

The Huys family, which will remain involved during the transition, said De Heus was a natural fit due to its shared values and long-term commitment to the agricultural sector.

De Heus acquires Kessels Holding

In a separate strategic move earlier this year, De Heus also acquired Kessels Holding B.V., a well-established Dutch poultry enterprise with operations spanning feed production, broiler farming, and slaughtering.

The deal further reinforces De Heus’ position in the broiler sector across the Netherlands and Belgium.

While financial terms for both transactions remain undisclosed, the acquisitions signal De Heus’ continued ambition to expand its European presence through local partnerships and integrated supply chains.
