INDIA – Loopworm, an India-based insect nutrition startup, has reached a significant milestone by securing the prestigious EU TRACES certification for its silkworm pupae-derived products.
This achievement allows the company to supply sustainable pet and animal feed ingredients within the European Union, a market known for its stringent quality and sustainability standards.
The certification process, completed with the support of the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), AQCS Bangalore, and CAPEXIL Chennai, was finalised in record time.
Loopworm’s production facility, certified under GMP+, ISO 22000, and HACCP standards, boasts an annual capacity of 6,000 metric tonnes, underscoring the company’s ability to meet growing global demand.
“This certification is a validation of our commitment to quality and compliance with international standards,” said Ankit Alok Bagaria, co-founder and CEO of Loopworm.
“Europe is an exceptional market for sustainable, high-quality ingredients, and we’re excited to address the increasing demand for sustainable nutrition in pet and animal feed.”
Since its LoopFactory launched in April 2024, the company has made waves in the Asian aquaculture market, supplying protein- and fat-rich products that have proven effective in enhancing shrimp feed palatability and growth rates.
Loopworm’s silkworm pupae products are crafted under climate-friendly conditions, offering a sustainable alternative to traditional feed ingredients. These nutrient-rich offerings include:
In addition to these products, the company is advancing research into insect-derived palatants, flavour enhancers, and functional products, with applications extending to anti-diabetic and anti-obesity pet formulations.
Loopworm is also developing a recombinant protein platform to create cost-effective animal therapeutics and diagnostics to revolutionise the industry.
As it enters the European market, Loopworm is engaging with pet food manufacturers who are interested in sustainable solutions.
“We’re thrilled to partner with European companies eager to integrate our products into their formulations. We aim to educate the market about the unique benefits of our offerings while learning from our customers,” Bagaria added.
Loopworm’s innovative approach harnesses insects’ often overlooked potential as a sustainable bioresource.
This breakthrough EU certification signifies a new chapter for the company and a step forward for sustainable animal nutrition globally.
