Agroloop partners FreezeM to revolutionise insect farming with decoupled BSF protein facility

HUNGARY – Agroloop Hungary Ltd., a feed-grade insect protein production company, has teamed up with FreezeM Ltd. to establish the world’s first decoupled Black Soldier Fly (BSF) protein production facility.

This innovative partnership, announced on November 19, 2024, introduces a novel supply chain model that separates breeding from production, paving the way for a more scalable, cost-effective, and sustainable approach to BSF protein manufacturing.

Traditionally, BSF farming operations have relied on vertically integrated systems where breeding and production occur under one roof.

However, this model often faces high costs, inefficiency, and production inconsistencies. Agroloop and FreezeM’s collaboration disrupts this paradigm by introducing FreezeM’s breeding-as-a-service solution, PauseM®, which allows Agroloop to outsource the breeding process entirely.

PauseM® units, developed at FreezeM’s breeding hub in Germany in partnership with Hermetia GmbH, deliver pre-counted, life-cycle suspended BSF neonates directly to Agroloop weekly.

These units offer Agroloop the flexibility to align production with demand while eliminating the need for an on-site breeding facility.

This decoupled model addresses key bottlenecks in insect farming, including operational inefficiencies and scalability limitations.

It enables Agroloop to focus exclusively on its mission of transforming organic waste streams into high-quality protein, oil, and fertilizer.

To further streamline operations, Agroloop and FreezeM have jointly developed an Automated PauseM® Deployment System, capable of integrating up to 4,000 PauseM® units—or 200 million BSF neonates—into the production line daily.

This automation minimises manual intervention, significantly enhancing productivity and scalability at Agroloop’s factory.

Rigorous benchmarking tests have demonstrated that PauseM® ensures higher production yields and operational consistency than conventional breeding methods.

Agroloop’s CEO and Co-Founder, Rajmond Percze, emphasised the transformative potential of this partnership:

Choosing PauseM® as our outsourced breeding solution was a strategic decision to revolutionise insect farming. With FreezeM’s innovation, we are positioned to meet the growing global demand for sustainable protein while ensuring operational efficiency and profitability.

FreezeM’s CEO and Co-Founder, Yuval Gilad, highlighted the industry-wide implications of this decoupled approach:

Our collaboration with Agroloop marks a new era for BSF farming. By decoupling breeding from production, we are solving longstanding challenges in the industry, setting a new standard for scalability and sustainability.”

Agroloop’s facility exemplifies the future of insect farming, combining cutting-edge technology with sustainable practices.
