INDIA – Loopworm, India’s largest insect-based protein and fat producer, has achieved significant milestones by securing ISO 22000, GMP+, and HACCP certifications for its 6,000-ton-per-year production facility, LoopFactory, located in Bangalore.
These certifications emphasize the company’s commitment to safety, quality, and international compliance in producing insect-derived protein and fat for both pet food and animal feed industries.
According to the company, obtaining ISO 22000 certification ensures that Loopworm’s products adhere to stringent food safety standards, guaranteeing a controlled and hygienic production environment.
“It ensures that Loopworm’s insect-derived products are safe for animal consumption and won’t introduce harmful pathogens into the supply chain, preventing disease outbreaks,” the company stated.
The GMP+ (Good Manufacturing Practices for Feed) certification further underscores Loopworm’s dedication to consistent production and quality control.
This certification is crucial for ensuring that all batches of insect protein and fat meet high international standards, particularly in markets with stringent regulations like Europe.
Loopworm’s GMP+ certification opens up opportunities for the company to penetrate these global markets.
Additionally, the HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) certification highlights Loopworm’s proactive approach to risk management.
HACCP ensures that Loopworm’s products remain free of contamination by identifying and controlling potential biological, chemical, or physical hazards during production.
“These certifications position Loopworm as a credible and responsible supplier, aligning with global pet food safety and animal feed industry standards,” said Ankit Alok Bagaria, Co-founder of Loopworm Private Limited.
“Certifications like GMP+ are critical for entry into key markets like Europe, where strict regulations govern feed and pet food ingredients. Whether dealing with pet food companies or animal feed manufacturers, these certifications demonstrate Loopworm’s commitment to delivering safe, high-quality, and sustainable products.”
Loopworm’s certifications not only safeguard the integrity of its products but also strengthen the confidence of pet food manufacturers and feed companies worldwide.
As a leader in India’s insect protein market, Loopworm’s adherence to international standards sets it apart as a benchmark for safety and quality in the growing insect protein sector.
With the rapid expansion of aquaculture and rising demand for sustainable alternatives to fishmeal and fish oil, insect-based protein and fat are gaining attention as viable feed ingredients.
Loopworm’s processing capability of 6,000 tons of insects annually positions the company to meet the increasing needs of aquaculture, particularly in markets like shrimp and Asian seabass.
As Bagaria noted, “We are focused on scaling up production and making insect protein and oil more accessible for the global feed industry, contributing to the future of sustainable aquaculture.”
