De Heus partners ShrimpVet to advance sustainable shrimp farming in Vietnam

VIETNAM – De Heus, a global leader in animal nutrition, has entered into a strategic partnership with ShrimpVet to promote sustainable shrimp farming practices in Vietnam. 

ShrimpVeT is a leading research and development organisation that focuses on shrimp aquaculture. 

Based in Vietnam, ShrimpVet is part of the University of Nha Trang’s ShrimpVet Laboratory and is recognised for its advanced work in shrimp health management, disease prevention, and sustainable shrimp farming practices.

ShrimpVet researches various aspects of shrimp farming, including disease diagnostics, vaccine development, and nutrition. 

It collaborates with global partners to address challenges in the shrimp industry, particularly in Southeast Asia. This work is critical in helping shrimp farmers improve productivity while maintaining environmental sustainability and animal welfare.

The cooperation agreement with De Heus, signed on August 6, 2024, marks a significant step forward in De Heus’ commitment to sustainable aquaculture, which focuses on reducing emissions and protecting the environment through advanced technologies.

This collaboration will see De Heus and ShrimpVet collaborate on various initiatives, including experimental research on shrimp diseases, developing advanced shrimp farming techniques, and creating comprehensive processes for shrimp breeding. 

Additionally, the partnership will facilitate knowledge transfer through seminars and other educational activities, supporting the growth of a sustainable shrimp farming industry in Vietnam.

De Heus is dedicated to providing high-quality feed and market access support to farmers and businesses in Vietnam. Through this partnership, the company aims to reinforce its position as a reliable partner in the region while contributing to the long-term sustainability of the shrimp farming industry.

This partnership is a testament to De Heus’ unwavering commitment to advancing Vietnamese livestock farming, a journey the company has been steadfastly dedicated to for over 15 years.

In other news, De Heus recently launched its new marine R&D facility at the Vinh Long Aqua Research and Development (R&D) Center in Vietnam. 

Situated on a 5.5-hectare R&D aqua farm in Vinh Long Province, De Heus has introduced two advanced systems to develop nutritional innovations for crustaceans and marine species, including Asian sea bass. 

This investment aims to enhance the company’s global expertise in aqua farming and deliver top-tier nutritional solutions to its shrimp and marine fish customers worldwide.

At the inauguration ceremony, Koen de Heus, CEO of De Heus Animal Nutrition, commended the Vietnamese and global R&D teams for their contributions to the new facility’s design, construction, and testing.
